September 8-14, 2008 Volume 11 Issue 19 Faces & Places Inside Out John Genzale At the Taste of Tennis, John DeLucie remembered riding through the West Village on his bike two years ago and finding the location for a restaurant.  The landlord put him in touch with Graydon Carter; the editor Vanity Fair, and together they opened the Waverly Inn, one of New York’s hottest restaurants.  DeLucie is the minority partner but chief chef.  At the Taste of Tennis, the Knicks fan, who went to his first U.S. Open last year an was so impressed he wanted a piece of the action, served mini chicken pot pies. Other restaurant included Pikayo, which served fried cheese with guava rum sauce; Heartbeat served watermelon gazpacho topped with a tequila ceviche swordfish; and Tavern the Green served Vietnamese meatballs with curry coconut sauce.  La Otra served plantain and eggplant caviar.  A.J. Calloway, an actor and motivational speaker, emceed as Ingrid Hoffmann, host of “Simply Delicioso” on the Food Network, cooked on stage with Andy Roddick and later flirted with reporters.
