2010 BENEFICIARY

New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) is the largest tennis and education-themed community organization in the United States providing free services to more than 100,000 New York City youth ages six to 18 each year. To reach its goals, NYJTL mobilizes the support of the community, corporate citizens, foundations, organizations and individuals who are committed to achieving net gains for kids.

beneficiary1NYJTL’s five free programs include: Aces Club After-School Program, Advanced Training Program, Arthur Ashe Educational Guidance Program, Community Tennis Program, and the Schoolyard Tennis Program.

1. Aces Club After-School Program offers free year-round activities to 2,200 children at 23 underserved New York City public schools. In addition to tennis instruction, Aces Clubs furnish a variety of services including homework help, tutoring, sports, arts, nutrition, and foster positive relationships with adults and peers.

2. Advanced Training Program invites talented young tennis players to receive elite training and travel to top local and national competitions as part of the Tournament Team. The Advanced Training Program also offers free academic resources including college application counseling.

3. Arthur Ashe Educational Guidance Program offers students free tutoring and counseling services. Group college visits are scheduled for high school students and families are assisted with the financial aid process leading to college scholarships.

4. Community Tennis Program reaches children ages six to 18 supplying free tennis instruction and equipment, practice and match play, special events and field trips; taught by USTA-trained coaches. Special Populations (District 75) Schools receive free adaptive tennis lessons and activities at summer program locations.

beneficiary25. Schoolyard Tennis Program supplies free tennis equipment, teacher training, and ongoing support to the 300 New York City public schools that include tennis as a regular part of their physical educational curriculum.
